1) i entered the US from canada just visiting, and we ended up getting married. so what do i put where it asks what my current ins status is and when it expires? i'm thinking just "visitor" and "n/a" or something?

No. The law requires that sponsors be domiciled (live) in any of the States of the United States, the District of Columbia, or any territory or possession of the United States.

Case scenario as in my case:
Married July 1, 2002
Applied for AOS August 30, 2002
AOS interview December 23, 2002
Did not get the I-551 stamp in my passport due to waiting for
additional security checks to come back.
Fast forward to June 5, 2004 - no word still
July 1, 2004 - I will be married 2 years.
If I get my approval before July 1, it will be a conditional card good
for 2 years. I can then apply to have the conditions removed 21
months from the approval date on that card to obtain the 10 year card.
If I don't get my approval until after July 1, it will be an
unconditional card good for 10 years because I then have been married
2 years.
The 2 year conditional factor is basically they want to make sure
your marriage is legit. I think I got that right.
Say I get my approval on June 30th which is the day before my 2nd
wedding year anniversary. I am stuck with the 2 year conditional
card. That's why I'm hoping no approval until after July 1.
I'm repeating myself but basically in a nutshell:
Approval at AOS time and before you've been married 2 years -
conditional card good for two years
Approval at AOS time but after you've been married 2 years -
unconditional card good for 10 years.

That is why I was hoping my hubby wouldnt get his interview till later this year & hopin it would take a few months to hear on approval so he could get the 10 year GC but given his interview is next month he will be getting the 2 year one instead. Darn it. heh
