Thai Girl Marrying American - Go K1 or K3 for Fastest Entry
Hello, I know depending on the country and state involved, sometimes
it is better to do a K1 instead of a K3.
I live in California, she is located in Thailand. Which is the best
way to go?
Also, any particular hang up or things we should be prepared for since
she is from Thailand? I know they are really strict, one of my Thai
friends who is here on a student visa almost didn't make it despite
being accepted into UCLA and having plenty of money in the bank to
cover her stay here.

K-3/K-4 : October, 21, 2003 (Jan, 22, 2004)
K-1/K-2 (CSC): July, 7, 2003 (Jan, 22, 2004)
You pays your money you takes your chances. At the moment it would appear that the NBC is is the lead?
For issues regarding your fiancee being from Thailand, I haven't a clue on that one

I am guessing that you are in California. The CSC is really slow at this
point in time. They average about 6 months for a K-1 approval. However K-3
goes to the National Benefits Center aka MSC. They are averaging about 3
months for approval at this time. Not saying what you should do just
informing.
One suggestion is to contact the consulate and see if you can DCF. I don't
know what the requirements are for filing the I-130 in person in Thailand.
Good Luck,
Dan

Dan,
The consulate in Bangkok is very strict about residency in Thailand for accepting DCF.
Doc says he lives in California, so he won't be doing DCF.

K-1 is the fastest way if you're getting married.

John,
Not necessarily. There is no such simplistic answer.

All I can say is, you must have gone through the Vermont Service Center! Ask everyone else who is waiting with CSC, NSC and TSC if it's the fastest way. K-3 is probably faster in many situations.

Re: Thai Girl Marrying American - Go K1 or K3 for Fastest Entry
Welcome to the NG!!!
Unless you file in Vermont which you wont since you live in California, K3 seems the best option, but again it is all up to you.
I am K3, I got approved in 72 days, the average is 80-90 days, please notice that every case is different
Good luck on whatever path you decide to take.

Re: Thai Girl Marrying American - Go K1 or K3 for Fastest Entry
I live in California and I recently did a K3 for my Thai wife. It took about
3 months from the time I filed until she was with me in America. My friend
did a K1 at the same time I did and he had to wait 3 more months for his
fiancé to join him here.
HOWEVER when you are at the AOS stage it looks like the K1 will be faster.
My I-130 which I filed with the CSC is taking forever to be approved. It is
stuck in limbo and the CSC processing dates on the USCIS website for I-130
are just not moving. While it is true that you may be able to file a new
I-130 at AOS time (depending on your local district office) normally the
original I-130 will need to be approved before process will get moving
again.
My friend who did the K1 just recently filed for AOS at the SF district
office and by looking at the processing dates it looks like his wife will
get the green card before mine does.
