Default taking a spouse to US, marriage before entrance?

Hi,
Is there a procedure to be followed if one wants to get married abroad,
and then bring the spouse into the US? The matter pertains an US citizen
and a non-US spouse.
Let's say they get married in front of a court in a foregn country and
then travel to stay in the states. Or should they get merried in the US
counsulate in a given country?

thanks a lot

You are seeking a marriage-based visa and there are several approaches that could be used depending on the country and circumstances. My suggestion is to read the FAQ MightBe suggested and ask your questions in the appropriate forum ... alt.visa.us.marriage-based and/or another gateway to that newsgroup via www.britishexpats.com

You can marry abroad and the US citizen can file I-130 at the Consulate in Warsaw. Expect plenty of paperwork.
The foreign spouse may then apply for an Immigrant Visa. The Consulate website has good detailed information for you, in addition to the other resources mentioned above.

K3 is the visa you need to get when you get married outside of the US
(probably the one you're after). This is explained at US Citizen and
Immigration Services website (and there are many other sites out there,
one being http://www.kamya.com/intro/k-1a.html ).
