I’m Australian. My husband is American. We were married nearly 2 years ago in
the US, and we have a 1 ½ year old child. We’re going to try and do DCF in
Sydney, but have a few questions. I tried to call the US consulate, but there was
only a recording. If anyone could help me with answers to these questions, I would
be grateful.

--Do you have to be married in Australia in order to get DCF? We were married
in the US.

--Is it okay that my husband, a USC, is not a resident of Australia? Can we still do
DCF if he comes for the interview?

--How long is the average wait for an interview these days?

--Is there any way you can receive all of the forms at once and submit them all at
once? Can you do everything on the same day? I read an account from someone who said
that they did this in Sydney, and it made the whole process go faster.

--Can you pick up the forms from the US consulate in Sydney in person, or do they
have to mail them to an address? What about forms from the internet? Are you allowed
to use those?

--My husband has done volunteer work overseas his whole life, so doesn’t have
income tax records for the last 3 years. We have a family friend who supports us, and
would fill out the affidavit of support, however, he only has the last 2 years of US
tax records. Prior to that, he was overseas doing volunteer work. Would 2 years of
tax records be sufficient? Is there any way you can get around not having 3 years? He
has a well paying job and could easily prove his support of us, but the tax records
are the only glitch.

--If we are able to use our co-sponsor, would my husband also have to fill out the
affidavit of support? So my husband fills one out, even though he doesn’t have
proof of support? And my sponsor fills one out?

--How long does the whole DCF process take if everything is in order? What is the
quickest amount of time you can get the green card, from beginning to end?

--If I have never been in any country for more than 6 months, do I have to get police
reports for those countries? I understand that you only need police records for
countries you have lived in for more than 6 months. Is this correct? Do I have to get
a police record for Australia? How long does that take?

Thanks so much, in advance, to anyone who takes the time to answer my questions.

Better to get them mailed, but if it's close, you might go there.

They would probably let him go with two years since he has a reason why no 3rd year.

Yes, husband is always primary sponsor and he has to do affidavit too. You present
both affidavits.

I'd say 2-3 months.

You don't need PC for other countries, only Oz. Shouldn't take too long.
