Surrendering I-94 upon departure: which one?
Folks,
I entered US in 2000 as J-1 visa holder. After a year I changed my
status to H-1b; it has been extended last year till May 2005. Now I
plan to go back home for a few weeks. Thus, which I-94 do I have to
surrender upon departure: the original one back from 2000 which has
the INS stamp on it, or the new one which came together with I-797A
after H-1b approval?
Thanks in advance,
Eugene

------ you have to surrender BOTH the I-94 at Airline counter, better ask for a staple or pin and staple both I-94 (recent at top) and surrunder before departure ( keep the copies of both the I-94 front and back as record in your immigration file for future records)
Thanks in advance,

I you follow the instructions on the I-797A, you won't need to
ask such questions. You were supposed to detach the I-94 from
the I-797A as soon as you received it, and attach it to any
existing I-94s in your passport. You then surrender them all
when you leave.
