Yeah, whatever. They're functionally equivalent for the most part. (-:

You're welcome my dear. I was filling my I-751 a year ago. And just completed my
citizenship app. and it's all ready to go. I know how stressful it can be. Dotting
the i's and crossing the t's are the worst part. Ranjini

Not the adjustment interview. I had that over four years ago. I filed my I-751 with
the Nebraska Service Center and 18 months later had still not heard anything. I had
my congressman send them a letter (since my letters and phone calls had got me
nowhere) and they said my application had been sent to Chicago and was waiting to be
scheduled for interview. When I went to the Chicago office to get a stamp in my
passport (since my receipt extending for one year had expired) they said a decision
had been made to interview everyone in the Chicago area and that was why there was a
backlog of 1 to 2 years.

Like I say, I don't know how true this statement is. It was just the lady who gave me
the stamp who told me. She could have been wrong. All of the other I-751 applicants I
know in this area have also been interviewed, or are pending interview.

If I am an exceptional case, I can't think why. We sent plenty of evidence of a bona
fide marriage with our application - mortgage papers, tax returns, joint bank
statements, affidavits, etc. The only possible problem could be that my husband is a
federal agent, but even so, his background check was completed in a matter of months,
including all the checks on my family in the UK.

Anyway, we were interviewed on April 9th, but I still do not have my green card...

By law an Interview is required for the I-751. If not, then there's no purpose
to even have an I-751. Due to all the marriage fraud, they should for sure
interview everyone.

If all your documentation is on order, there is no need to worry. The interview will
probably be a formality. Just take the originals of the documents you have already
sent, plus the latest tax returns filed jointly (if there is one) and some of the
latest bank statments etc, to prove you marriage is an on-going thing ... and good
luck!! Let us know how it goes. Ranjini

I think you should verify your facts before you make such statements. I am quoting
from the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) at 8 CFR & 216 Section 216.4: quote" b)
Interview -- (1) Authority to waive interview. The director of the regional service
center shall review the Form I - 751 filed by the alien and the alien's spouse to
determine whether to waive the interview required by the Act. If satisfied that the
marriage was not for the purpose of evading the immigration laws, the regional
service center director may waive the interview and approve the petition. If not so
satisfied, then the regional service center director shall forward the petition to
the district director having jurisdiction over the place of the alien's residence so
that an interview of both the alien and the alien's spouse may be conducted. The
director must either waive the requirement for an interview and adjudicate the
petition or arrange for an interview within 90 days of the date on which the petition
was properly filed. " end quote. We submitted documents such as proof of Joint
ownership of our home, tax returns filed jointly for three years, joint bank accounts
operated by both of us throughout the duration of our marriage ( bank statements,
cancelled cheques) monthly mortgage statements etc., etc., and we were approved
without an interview. Ranjini

yes and no. The stamp you get after filing I-751 is an extension of your
conditional GC.

Our friends had theirs notarized for us. We interpreted "affidavits sworn to or
affirmed....." to mean just that. As have many others. I would think it's best.
Notaries are very easily found -- at Banks and some other institutions. And they do
it for free. Rachel, I'll be happy to answer as many questions as you like. I seem to
recall that I did the same Ranjini

Default Re: Stupd I-751 question

I'm not worried. My interview was two months ago, on April 9th. They just checked
that my address and SSN were still current and that this was still the same marriage.
Hopefully I will get my green card (with no conditions) before my stamp expires in
October....

It's just bizarre that we've been married for well over six years now and I still
don't have a green card.
