Steps Needed for return

I'm a British national who has lived and worked in Holland since 1980. I have recently been made redundant due to company reorganisation and at the age of 53 have decided it's time to move on. One of my options may be to return to the UK as I still have family and friends there. However I wondered if anyone can give advice on where to start. For example who would need to be informed and what documention is involved.
