Greg recived his SSN today after finally going in and being a bit harsh with them! So, my question is... the card has the"Work only with INS Authorization thing" and I was wondering, once he gets his EAD, does he have to get a new card to get employment or does showing the card and EAD together prove him eligible for work.. do we ever need to get a new card or is this the permanant one?

Hi All!
What did he do? Threaten to take the coffee pot? LOL
He keeps that card until he is a permanent resident. Once he is a
permanent resident he can apply for an unrestricted SSN card.
Until then he needs to show the EAD as BCIS work authorization. The SSN
card has that on it so he can't use it as authorization to work.
Take care,

Is this correct? As I understand things, until an immigrant is naturalized,
he/she still needs INS permission to work in the US. Until they are granted
permanent residence, the EAD is that proof. Once residence is granted, the
I-551 stamp or green card serves as that proof of permission to work. On my
green card it has "the person identified by this card is authorized to work
and reside in the US", so it supplants my old EAD for work permission, but
without the card I could not legally work.
