Hi Posties wife back again. Can anyone tell me about sponsorship? I was thinking about my father sponsoring myself, husband and 2 sons. He's offered but to be quite honest we don't know much about it and want to cover all the options!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Sponsorship is when one says they will take care of an immigrant but
when the immigrant actually gets here then the immigrant goes on
welfare of some sort and then our country has to take care of them.

You mean the mother and father are going to work?

Sponsorship means a few different things. One meaning is that the father
files an I-130 relative petition with the USCIS, asking to classify you and
your family in a category for immigration. You already referred to that in
another post -- that process has a seven year wait or so.
The other thing that "sponsorship" means is the promise to support you and
your family financially. This is in connection with the I-130 immigration
process. You can't move or immigrate to the U.S. just because someone
promises to support you, if that's what you're thinking.

On the contrary, you cannot go on welfare. If you do, the government will
go after your father for the money. The I-864 affidavit of support is
legally enforceable, and the government could simply take money out of your
father's bank account if necessary.

Graphic Queen was being sarcastic, I would guess.

Of course you have just proven that you don't know it all. I know of
several people that were sponsored and they in fact went on welfare
(SSI). What you say is correct and exactly what is wrotten but not
what is actually done of course. Don't believe me? Then all one must
do is look at the thousands of Mexicans that have been sponsored and
the fact that such a large number of them are on the dole. Not one
thing has been done to any member of any of the families. I personally
know of 6 different families in the Las Cruces area where all that I
said is absolute FACT.

I appreciate the fact that you are at least trying to go about this
legally. I don't know enough about the actual process except to tell
you that it will take you much longer than you would want or like and
much of that will be because of our stupid homeland security, wheich
really doesn't do anything except to take tax money for not making
this country secure.
Good Luck to you though!!!
