Default Sorry another question RE i-864

Hi so had another question after a little panic moment...

Can someone be a joint sponsor if in the last three most recent tax years they earned below the poverty guideline for sponsoring but their current (new permanent job) salary is sufficient to meet the poverty line?

They only "meet" the poverty line? ..... They need to have "excess" income, over the poverty line, sufficient to "support" the additional person that they are the joint sponsor for.

They meet it and more. Their income is greater than the requirement. I am more curious to know how the previous tax years income will affect it if at all as the joint sponsor has recently accepted a new job. Hope this clears it up a bit better.

It is current income that counts. Previous tax years falling below the required amount should not be an issue.

Thanks so much. Really hoping all gets approved. We've already sold most of our furniture 😬

I know I must be crazy, but we do have a plan b just in case. 😊

Don't try to conflate two completely separate and unrelated issues. There is a requirement for the joint sponsor to include 3 years' worth of tax returns. There is a separate requirement that the joint sponsor currently earns income at or above the 125% poverty level. There is no requirement whatsoever that those 3 years must all be at or above the 125% poverty level.

Don't read into things that which isn't there!
