Default SHOULD I Just get married being I am in the U.K. already????

O.K. my question is.....I am in the United Kingdom on a visitor visa for 6 months
well until August 22 anyway. I have not started any paper work, but was about
to start the I-129f for a fiance' visa for my U.K. fiance'. Would it be easier
to just get married here and then start the paper work? Would it be faster? And
how is it different from starting the I-129f to begin with, and what sort of
process would we have to go through? Can I even get married being I am here on
a visitor visa, or would it mess things up? I know it is alot of Questions but
I am desperate and want to spend as less time as I have to away from Clive?
Thanks for any advice. Oh....and what paper work would I need to have with me
here to get married and start the process if it is possible. Sheila (U.S.C )
Clive (U.K.C)

Start at the following site, accept the conditions and read thoroughly the sections
on adjusting status from a tourist visa:

Ok. I am looking at the site now but it seems to be about if you are in the U.S
already? I am in the U.K. on a visitor visa. Is it the same just opposite?

To answer your question from personal experience, YES, get married in the UK and stay
over there to file the I-130 through the London consulate, it is MUCH faster. If you
want the dream wedding, have a small ceremony at the registrar's, and plan an
american one much later. My husband and I had a small one in England, but made the
mistake of not filing in London.. we're still planning a big wedding here in Baton
Rouge and our family and friends are fine with it. If you need any other tips on
getting married there, feel free to email me.

Whoops! Completely misread this. I understand there are similar things in the UK but
I can't help you any further!

If you are already married, you cannot file the I-129F - it is only for fiancés. Once
you are married, you would have to file the I-130 - and this takes much longer to
process than the I-129F (which takes 4-6 months), usually close to a year. The best
place to start is the website Andy gave you
http://www.mindspring.com/~docsteen/...o/visainfo.htm Just go there and start
reading from the beginning - this will list all your options and what you can and
can't do, and helpful hints and examples of forms. This is a very informative
website. Take Care. Shelley

Since the original poster is not a legal resident of the UK, but only there on a
visitors visa, they cannot do Direct Consular Filing (DCF) at the London Consulate.
If they marry in the UK, the USC will have to file an I-130 with a Service Center in
the US, and wait out processing. IMHO they should file for the fiancé visa now -
since she is planning to stay in the UK until August anyway, by the time she returns
to the US, the process will be more than half over, and it would only be a month or
two until her fiancé joins her in the US. Take Care. Shelley
