Default SEA as POE for possible issuance of EAD

Talking to my lawyer, he had the stats for all the k1 cases he handled. I
was asking him if it was possible to get EAD at POE so she can be eligible
to begin working rather than wait until EAD approval which would take about
90 days after filing AOS. If the stats hold any water, it appears that
Seattle and Atlanta still do some EAD stamping today. There is no
guarantee, but the odds are increased anyhow. So she is scheduled to come
on 03Jul. Will let you know how it went!

Anyone experienced EAD issuance success/failure at POE? Which POE did you
use? Anyone try that at Seattle airport?

I can't vouch for SEA, but Atlanta definitely does not give any any more, I
asked for confirmation of that when I went through there. If the data you
have is suggesting that SEA and ATL both *do*, I would take it with a pinch
of salt.

Most of those who are getting the stamps are going through JFK (and I think
a couple of people through Boston?)

Seattle's a nifty airport, incidentally, dig the fish on the floors in the
lounges...

The EAD that you get at POE or from the BCIS office when entering on a K1 is only a temporary 90 Authorization. If you do get this at POE you also need a Social Security Number before you can work, this can take several weeks.

Once you marry and apply for AOS then you will also apply for a 1 year EAD. The problem that occurs is that your temp EAD has likely expired long before you get your 1 year one. It may happen that you will be without work during that time difference unless you are lucky enough to be in an area that allows walk in EAD & AOS processing.

Just don’t mistake the POE EAD as a long term solution to working, it has it’s complications.

You don't need an SSN to start work, only need proof you applied.

Default Re: SEA as POE for possible issuance of EAD

Hi, Kent

I came from Indonesia and flew from Jakarta to SF then to Seattle in
February 2002. I didn't get EAD at SF. I heard they don't issue any EAD at
POE anymore, but I could be wrong.
I got my EAD about 6 weeks after we sent AOS, EAD and AP package to INS
Seattle.
Good luck for Ruby.
