Hi All:
I applied for my parents' green card (parents of US citizen). My
parents got the I-130 cleared and got the 485 package. The appeared
for interview on June 9th and this is what happened.
They carried all the documents with them as per the 485 package they
received. Everything went smoothly but for one thing. My parents had
overstayed in US on 2 occassions in the past 10 years when they were
visitors here. On both occassions they did get an authorization from
INS for extension of stay. The consular then wanted to see the
original approval notices. So they issued a RFE. Unfortunately, I lost
the approval notices and are now in trouble!! We are trying to get
duplicates from INS but we dont have WAC#s for those approval notices.
You need these numbers to fill out the form I-824 to apply for
duplicate approval notices. If we cant get this, I think some kind of
written evidence from INS stating my parents had approval notices for
the periods of overstay should work. I was wondering if anyone heard
of a similar incident or if anyone has experience getting this kind of
duplicates from INS. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks
-Hari
