Removing conditional status from Green Card?
Dear all,
You have been so much help to me when I was filing for my CR1 visa a year and a half ago. Time sure flies by fast, I made many new friends, took up a hobby I never thought I would (dog showing) and easily got used to American food! Living in my husband's home state is great, he knows so many cool places here. We've been travelling a lot in general, I got to visit 14 states so far :D Originally I was granted a conditional resident status, so I have my two year green card which will expire in November this year. Is I-751 the only form my husband and I have to file to get my 10 year green card? The USCIS website also mentions adding $85 for biometric fee... what exactly is that and where can it be done? Thanks for all your help! |
Re: Removing conditional status from Green Card?
The biometrics involves having your fingerprints and photograph taken. You will be given an appointment and told where to go. If you search the USCIS web site you should find the service center nearest to where you live, and that should be where they tell you to attend. It isn't normally the main USCIS office, but a service center where the biometrics are done.

Re: Removing conditional status from Green Card?
You may also possibly have an interview (some do and some don't). Also when you get your biometrics appointment, many centers allow you to walk in at an earlier date than the appointed date.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-751instr.pdf The above links will help you. It gives you all the information you need to remove conditions. You can file WITHIN the 90 days preceding the expiration of your Green Card but NOT before that time. Upon receipt of your filing you will be sent a Notice Of Action by USCIS which will extend your status for 1 Year, keep this notice in a safe place and make a few copies. It will be proof of your status whilst your I-751 is pending as your GC will expire whilst you are waiting for them to adjudicate your case. I filed in June 2012 for Removal Of Conditions and I am still waiting. Be prepared for a long wait as these cases aren't a priority for USCIS. |
Re: Removing conditional status from Green Card?
I have just done it too. (Sent in my I-751.) Paid the fee + the biometrics fee as one amount via check. Got the one year extension letter and biometrics appointment pretty quick after that. You don't have to book biometrics appointment yourself. They take your photo and fingerprints, no big deal. It's done at the local ASC (application support center).
It's good that you remembered about the removal of conditions, I almost forgot, sent it in a couple of weeks before the deadline! So you can send it in sometime in August this year. Sounds like you're having a lot of fun! :) |
Re: Removing conditional status from Green Card?
To remove the conditions on you Permanent Resident status (the new green card that will be issued will reflect that change in your status). Yes.

Yay! Congrats! What did you get, a letter saying the card is on its way?
 |
Re: Removing conditional status from Green Card?
A text message and an email from USCIS as I use their online case status system. I have to say I'm pretty relieved, it's been a long wait.
