I have just sent my paperwork off to have my conditions removed from my GC. My conditional permanent GC expires on Jan 7th 2011. Does anyone know the how long before I will receive my new card. Also how long does it normallly take to get your app for biometrics? What will I have as proof of my status between when my GC expires and receiving my new 10 year GC. If I need to travel to Uk, what will I have as evidence of my status on my return at customs. Thank you

It might be three months or one year. In the interim, around the 4th or 6th week after filing your petition you will receive a notice from the USC (I-797) extending your green card privileges for one year. This notice is to be used, along with your expired green card, for travel.

Within 2 weeks you should receive the extension letter Rete says. You carry the letter + expired green card until you get your new card (this may take months to a year, tho they have been reported lately to be on the very fast end of that).
Remember to take a photocopy of the letter and put it in a safe place.
Biometrics will follow and then eventually, and approval letter and then a new green card.
