What is 'craigslist' though?
google is your friend

www.craigslist.org then pick your city.
I've been chatting with a member here about our mutual bungalow re-doing. House prices in the close-in city are low enough to make real estate flipping look like a good deal in Atlanta! If you like older homes, there are some lovely neighborhoods there.

You could also consider a sublet or short term rental for a few months after you arrive, then rent something more permanent after that. Like meauxna says, you want to make sure you're choosing the most suitable neighborhood before you sign up to a year long lease or whatever.

Good point about the sublet.. that is how I marketed my house when I was overseas.. I didn't want just any old "renter".. I wanted someone who would value it as a home (and treat it nicely). Another excellent use of craigslist; the best sorts of sublets and short term house rentals are marketed there.

I heart craigslist.
