Default Religious and Civil wedding requirements for K3 - Lima,Peru

Hello to everybody:
I read in one of the posts that to apply for a K3 Visa I will need to have a
civil marriage AND religious wedding, Is that true? I will think that only
the civil marriage is necessary for the K3 & I130. Please help.
FYI: The requirements for a civil marriage in Lima,Peru are amazing, but
nothing compared to the requirements by the Roman Catholic church in Lima,
Peru for a wedding (Although I think it must be the same everywhere in the
world for the Roman Catholics).

By the way, I am not applying for a K1 because of the apparent diffculty to
get visas approved in Lima, although I have plenty of proof, I think a K3
willl be a safer bet.

Oh well, Thanks in advance for your help.
Chris

You need to have the appropriate ceremony / ceremonies in the country you
are getting married in. If the country required a religious ceremony you
would need one; since it appears they don't, you don't need one.

Usually the issue is actually the other way around. In some countries the
religious service cannot be counted as the marriage and you need a civil one
too. Perhaps that is what the post was talking about?

Andy.

C&G,

The USCIS will generally recognize a marriage that is recognized by the government in the place where the marriage was performed.

Whatever it takes for the government of Peru to issue a marriage certificate to you is what you need to do. It's that marriage certificate that you have to include with your I-130 and I-129f in order to prove that you're married.

Regards, JEff

Usually the Embassy states on their website what documents meet their requirements. The US Embassy in Colombia requires the registro civil so even if you get married in the Catholic Church you have to register the marriage with the notaria. For immigration purposes, a civil marriage would have been sufficient. The Catholic Church had a long list of requirements which I spent most of last summer fulfilling. That seems to be the same everywhere.
