Received spouse visa... we're on our way!

My wife received her UK visa today! That is a huge weight off our minds seeing as everything else has been moving ahead:
  • We have accepted an offer on our house. We still have to have it appraised and inspected but hopefully there won't be any problems. We settle on September 8th.
  • I gave my notice at work a few weeks ago (it felt so good). They have extended my notice period a couple of times but my last day is now July 21st... two weeks to go!

The plan of action is to get a hotel room from the 8th to 10th, then drive up to Boston on the 11th just for the sake of exploring Boston, seeing as we will have a rental car by then and won't have to worry about the return journey. We can fly home from Boston with Virgin Atlantic for about half the price as BA from Baltimore.

It is just so exciting now we have the visa; I am really moving home! Wife is so wonderful; she's so excited about it too, even though it means leaving her homeland and re-learning everything. Still, I did the same for her five years ago, so it's all fair. :)

TWO MONTHS TO GO!!!

(NB: I take it you guys are familiar with the UK Yankees forum - might come in handy... ;))

LOL! Yes, it has helped settle a lot of doubts as the majority of posters there seem quite happy with the UK. I'm sure my wife will find plenty of things she has to vent about on there though!

Congratulations!!!!! Ain't it great to have it in your hands, (or your wife's hands at least)?!! :D

I hope everything else goes to plan for you all!

(P.S. My Hubby loves it here - give him time, though, and I'm sure he'll find some pet peeves)! :p

We'll be staying with my parents in Surrey, initially :scared: but after that depends on whether house prices change, where I get a job, and how much I'm earning.

Calle, good to hear from you! I'm glad your husband is settling in so well. Good luck with your visitors :)

Congratulations! Hope all goes well. Did the visa take long? My daughter (British) and her American husband are seriously thinking of moving to UK and gathering info about housing and schools. Just wondered how long it takes to get a visa.

Not long at all. They aim to process them within five business days. We applied online on June 22nd I believe, and we know our supporting documents were delivered on Saturday July 1st. We had an email saying the visa was approved on the 5th, and it arrived by FedEx the following day! SOOOO much quicker and easier than dealing with USCIS!

Yeah just a bit (quicker than the USCIS) LOL. Thanks I'll pass that info on to my daughter.
