Default quickie question...

what does a UKC need with them, to get married at short notice to a USC in the USA? Anything other than passport? how about divorce papers, other i.d, a licence?

May i stress that this is a hypothetical question to expand my knowledge, and that it is with the understanding that the UKC would then go home, and follow the CR1 route its just that i read that its harder for USC's to come here and marry (UK) so, i wondered what the hoops were to jump through to marry in the USA.

Thanks!

The UKC doesn't need a special visa to marry in the USA, it can be done on the VWP.

For specific requirements on documents needed to get the marriage license, you'll have to look that up according to your state or county. Each one is different. Some have a waiting period between applying for the license and actually getting married.

Here in Phoenix, all he needed was ID, for which he used his passport. He did not need local ID, SSN, proof of previous marriage termination, etc.

Fifty states and a jumble of odds and ends gives that many answers. Here in AZ you need any proof of ID, a few buckeroos and a trip to a boring office. No certificates of any kind required -- birth, divorce, whatever.

The UK is complicated because they insist you have the right visa or permission to get married.

Mrs Ginblossom would shoot me as I don't remember for sure, but when we married in Vegas, you go to the county clerk's office, fill in the papers and apply for the licence, they were quite keen to see id.

Mrs G I think had to show her CA drivers license.

I am pretty sure I did though, my passport I think.

Married on VWP though with no issues. Here is the link to Nevada's requirements.
