Hi mcjimbo,

Just wanted to say I'm interested in this as well, and also find it very confusing. I think what we will do in our case, is have my fiance come through JFK (that was the plan all along anyway), and get the temp stamp. After he's here a couple of weeks, giving his name time to get in the SAVE system, we'll go get him a SSN. A couple of weeks later, we'll get married and file his AOS and EAD. Then just sit back and wait for the EAD card to come, I guess....? I don't think Phoenix does walk-ins.

It seems this gives him about 5 months, plus or minus, to acclimate himself to the USA, learn more English, and look into owning a business here.

Hopefully, this will work and we'll have a smooth transition between it all.

Best Wishes!
Rene

Thanks for all the information.

So I think i'm going to stick to the original plan to fly into JFK and get my 90 day work stamp. This should last me until I have my AOS and get a 1 year work stamp.

I'm keen to get working right away, I had another email today from a company offering me an interview. I must say I find it comforting to know that my skills are in demand, because I hear and have read a lot of doom and gloom stuff about the U.S. job market.

That said i'm still not approved, and don't know exactly when i'll be heading out there. Plus an interview isn't a job, but its encouraging to know that my resume and qualifications seem to be generating some interest.

Just know there may be a 'gap' between receiving your 'full' EAD and when your '90 day' EAD 'stamp' runs out. Other than that you are ok.

The temp EAD doesn't make having an SSN assigned to you any easier and in
fact it's not even needed. As long as you have an I-94 showing K-1 status
and you haven't been in the U.S. over 76 days at the time your status is
verified, you can be assigned a work authorized SSN and issued a card.
After the 76th day you need an EAD card, even if you applied before the 76th
day.

Your status needs to be verified no matter what document authorizing work
you take to the SSA office
