Questions about K1, etc
Hi guys,
So I am planning on marrying my American fiance next year. A few things: 1.) I was denied a travel visa 8/9 years ago when JFK told me to apply for one because I was "abusing the visa waiver" - I was going there for 3 months and coming back here (UK) for a few months then repeating. They of course denied the visa. I got some wrong information from JFK and should've just calmed down on the travelling. - Will this affect my K1 application in any way? 2.) My fiance doesn't make much money and I understand that there needs to be some sort of support there financially. I however have around what equates to $65,000 USD saved. - Will they take that into account that I have enough savings to support myself while there? I am also self-employed and making a decent monthly income. 3.) Lastly, what is the best process for me to go through: get her a lawyer and they handle it, or get myself one here? I don't know if there are many here that would be handle this, seems like more of a US based thing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
Re: Questions about K1, etc
1. No.
2. Maybe. Otherwise, any USC or US PR can sponsor you, if they earn enough. 3. No lawyer is really necessary. Rene |
Re: Questions about K1, etc
If you want a lawyer, <snip> in Sacramento CA specializes in marriage cases, including K-1 applications. He knows what he is doing.
Is a lawyer necessary? Let me put it this way, I used to do my own taxes. I don't anymore; haven't for years. |

I was going to offer an opinion, but then I glanced at some of the previous posts of OP.

Well yeah I have reasons for this, like making sure it was the right choice and making sure my money was right in terms of my business. Criminal conviction is nothing, I've already looked into that. < snipped > :goodpost:
Good luck. Because of current conditions, I am more prone to recommend competent counsel. (Despite my signature, that is the one piece of specific advice I feel safe in ever offering). (I do not solicit work here, never have. I get no referral fees from any name I post). Good luck. |
