Question regarding k1 visa

Hi guys,

I'm filling in my forms for the K1 visa application to the london embassy and I have a question regarding the documents required, i've read the wiki page on here and it states that you don't send the documents (birth cert etc) along with your forms(DS-156 and the others) but instead take them with you to the interview.

However on the form DS-156k it states that the following documents must be attached in order to apply for a fiance nonimmigrant visa, these include birth cert and police certificates.

I'm now confused as I was under the impression i had to get the relevent paperwork (DS-156 etc) back to them asap so the london embassy could start the process, however if I now have to wait for the police certificates before sending the forms then it'll be quite awhile before they recieve anything from me.

I'm probally overthinking this but want to get it correct first time, which way is the correct course of action?

Many thanks for your help

Re: Question regarding k1 visa

I've always wondered about that instruction, because for the 15 years that I've been following marriage-based immigration I have not seen that it literally applies. Maybe it did in days of yore, when knights were brave and ladies were chaste, but these days nothing needs to be physically attached nor even accompany the DS-156k. Most of the listed documents are to be submitted at the visa interview.

You take the police certificate to the interview with you. You should get your police certificate now. It will be valid for 1 year. You don't want to get an interview booked before you actually have your police certificate in hand....and although there's usually a month or two wait for an interview date, you never know...they might book you into a cancellation within a week or two after they receive your application. Or after they receive the medical results (not quite sure if that's how it works anymore with a K-1 visa).

The documents will be "attached" to the visa forms on interview day prior to you seeing the immigration officer. London prefers that you keep up with your personal documents until that day. They will join up in your file before you get a visa approval.

You need the police certificate before the medical appt.

Your medical results must be received by the embassy before they will schedule an interview.

Moxie is right, now that I remember. The medical exam requires a photocopy of your police report on the day you go in for the exam.

Re: Question regarding k1 visa

Ok thanks guys things are much more clear now.

Sorry but I've got another question i've discovered while filling out the DS-230 part 1, it involves question 35 asking to list dates of all previous visits to or residence in the united states.

Do you know if they mean holidays also, I ask because it asks in month format and most holidays are in weeks.

It asks for visits so i'm guessing they do include holidays but just checking because i've got a lot of holidays to write down in a small amount of space, and i'll need to dig out my old passports to get accurate info.

Probally over thinking again.

Thanks for your help

Yes, it means any trips to the USA, for any reason, for any length of time.

Yep, old passports, old emails with intineraries, vague memory of Disneyland visit 20 years ago. Do the best list you can. As with any application, you may add a page and type your list:
