Default question re New York AP

just a couple simple questions...

we sent in my husband's AP a couple weeks ago and check not cashed yet. First question, how long does that normally take and second q, does 26 Federal Plaza just forward it on to NBC (which could explain why check not yet cashed). Not carping about time, just want to make sure they got it.

I saw somewhere on newsgroup someone who said they don't cash check until they are ready to approve, but don't know if that applies to NYC or NBC.

AP should be taking around 3 months through NYC, and I have heard of applications being forwarded to MSC. Whether or not it has been forwarded they should have cashed the cheque anyway.

My application was not forwarded, and after I waited 5 months went down there and did a walk in.

Have you received a yellow till receipt yet?

No, and it's 2 weeks. albeit with intervening holiday.

Maybe give it a couple more weeks. When I went down there to enquire, they would not even entertain the query without the yellow receipt, or some other proof of application (i.e. the cancelled cheques or proof of delivery).

Dear grouchy

Same here. After mailing in my AP application to the NYC office early Dec 2003, nothing else happened. The cheque has not been cashed and I have not got any yellow receipt.

Am now wondering if it would be better to:
1. wait patiently or
2. query the NYC district office with my certified mail receipt or
3. cancel the cheque and send in a new application

Any suggestions from other forum users?

My husband got the AP recently (saturday). It took them 3 or 3 and a half weeks to cash the check and I am wondering whether that was because they might have been waiting for their new name, USCIS, to be on the 'approved' list of payees at the bank. From other posts on this forum that has been an issue recently, with all of the agency name changes. Some people even got their checks rejected for the same reason-maybe NY BCIS just holds unto them until the payee list is updated?
So if I were you I'd give it a little time.

Finally received the AP through post -- took about 2 months -- longer than you had to wait, grouchy, probably because of the intervening holidays. Still, advantages (surprisingly there are indeed a couple): wait was shorter than 90 days and did not have to take a whole day off work to queue and get AP in person.

I filed AP in Oct/03, received and responded to RFE in Nov. Current online status shows they received my response to RFE on Dec 2. Since then, I've been waiting... Looks like people filed in Dec already received AP in hand. I may have to do a walk-in soon. Does anybody else still waiting for AP approved since last year? worried...
