Hi ,

I am savisesh working at new york. I am working in US with H1-B visa
I want to attach my dad's Last name as my surname now becuase i have
been facing lots of issues with SSN and DMV, etc without having a
lastname. I had a couple of questions regarding this...I would really
appreciate if somebody could guide me or give me some information about
this. I have the following questions.

If i go to india now and legally do a name change ; and get an court
order. Is it legal to enter US with my existing passport which has the
US H1-B visa stamped on it which is valid till next year even though i
have not changed my name on the passport and visa . I want to contine
the rest of the name change process from US then since that facility is
available with the Indain Consulate at New York. My Only reason for
going to India is to get the court order. Because without the court
order i would not be able to apply for the Visa Renewal next year and
then for applying a name change on the SSN.


Pls let me know your Suggestions.

Why involve India at all? Why don't you just do the name change in the US
like anyone else living in the US would? Isn't a US court order documenting
the name change recognized by India and every other country? I don't see
why it wouldn't be. US birth certs and marriage licenses are recognized all
over the world as proof of name. Why would a US court order documenting a
name change be viewed any differently?
