Hello all,

We did our (AOS) interview two days ago. We`re wondering how long it takes before
they let you know whether we got approved ? And also whether they would immediately
send the Green Card or whether we gotta go back to collect it ?

They tell you at the interview if you are approved or not. If approved, they stamp
your Passport with an I-551 stamp. If you are not approved that day, it is usually
because they ask you for extra evidence. Once you submit this extra evidence, they
will approve you and send you a letter. If they did not approve you and did not give
you a reason or ask for extra evidence, I don't know what to think. Don't think the
worst, but keep in mind most people are either approved that day or they ask for
extra evidence. I would find out why they did not approve you, because generally the
ball is in your court now as you have to provide whatever extra evidence they asked
for. What reason did they give for not approving you?

Recently, there have been a number of reports of people doing AOS interviews and being told "this is approvable" but we have to wait for XYZ - usually a security clearance (aka IBIS check) to come through. The card / approval is sent out within a few months.
