Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
Hi guys and gals,
Question about obtaining a RCMP certificate for purposes of a K3 in Montreal: Does one have to wait until he/she has rec'd Packet 3 from the Consulate to get the RCMP check, or can one simply go in at any time to get this done? My wife's K3 is en route to Montreal this week, and I'd like to get a jump on things. Thanks in advance Joe |

My wife's K3 is en route to Montreal this week, and I'd like to get a jump on things. Thanks in advance Joe I applied for the RCMP check back in August, before I applied for my K-3. My petition has now been approved and I am expecting packet 3 shortly, but I still haven't received my certified criminal record check. They say they are taking over 150 days now to turn these around. You need to be fingerprinted and you simply state the reason for the check. I put "US visa application" on mine. wholy doodle.. 150 days? do a search on this site because the info has been posted several times..
a couple questions to consider.. if you have no record, then you can order up a police certificate, which comes from the rcmp.. has that logo on it, in toronto, (just an example) and it was back by the end of the week.. if you have a record, then they have to do a search by fingerprints.. this can take up to 5-6 months.. perhaps the other poster has done it this way.. someone posted they got it same day in ottawa, I believe.. the certificate is good for 6 months |
Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
Are the RCMP certificate requirements for a K1 different than they are for
a K3? For the K1's - you only need to get fingerprinted and apply for the "certified" check if your initial inquiry comes up with a criminal history of some kind. If you have no criminal history, its a matter of going into the RCMP and asking them for a "Canadian Police Certificate" - a check based on your name and birthdate - they give you a little piece of paper that says "This certifies that a search, based on the above name and date of birth, failed to disclose any such person with a record of criminal convictions in the national repository for criminal records in Canada.' Then it goes on to say "Search not confirmed by fingerprints". So - if you have no criminal history, thats all you need. I went into the RCMP station and they gave it to me while I was waiting - no fee. Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
I'm hoping you're right that they're the same for the K3. I'm not going to
be real happy if I need to wait another 5-6 months just to get a check done with the RCMP after spending so much time patiently waiting for everything else. So, hopefully someone else can get this answered.. CdnChick - Where did you go to get this done, and did you need anything "official" stating why you needed the check done? Provided I don't have to wait the 150 days, I can wait a little while before getting it done, but I'd probably go and do it before I receive Packet 3, to make sure there aren't any unnecessary delays :) > Are the RCMP certificate requirements for a K1 different than they are for > a K3? > For the K1's - you only need to get fingerprinted and apply for the > "certified" check if your initial inquiry comes up with a criminal history > of some kind. > If you have no criminal history, its a matter of going into the RCMP and > asking them for a "Canadian Police Certificate" - a check based on your name > and birthdate - they give you a little piece of paper that says "This > certifies that a search, based on the above name and date of birth, failed > to disclose any such person with a record of criminal convictions in the > national repository for criminal records in Canada.' Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
No, I didn't need to take anything to show the RCMP - I actually took the
consulate checklist and a copy of my NOA1 with me - but the guy didn't ask for anything. Just told him what I needed - and off he went to his computer. Just tell them that you want a "Canadian police certificate for visa applicants". I lived in Calgary, so I went to the RCMP station there. I went and got it done the end of March and my interview in Vcr wasn't until mid-June last year ... I'm pretty sure that I didn't have packet 3 yet when I went to get the certificate. And honestly, I don't remember there being any difference in the RCMP requirements for the K1 and/or the K3 - but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
I agree. I also applied to RCMP (Ottawa)in August. And I'm also still
waiting. I sent it courier and sent a return courier. Boy, glad I spent the money doing that!! Ha, ha.... But,.... In the meantime, my I130 is approved, which doesn't state it needs to be certified, so now,... I will go to my local police station, and of course, shell out more money and waste what was spent on the certified copy, but they've said they do it same day. BTW, did I read that the medical was good for a year?? Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
K3 for Canadians -
the checklist for the K3 through Montreal directs you to read supplemental document OF-169 which states "The only acceptable police report from Canada is the certificate issued by the RCMP,....." It continues on about addresses etc. I would assume from this that the K1 and K3 differ in this respect. I can scan the page of the supplement if you like. Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
Okay, looking back and reading many, many old posts, I've decided that since
many people (without criminal records, ofc) were able to do it without the fingerprinting and generally get it same-day at a local RCMP office, that's what I'll do. If it's wrong, I'll find out then. I also decided to "borrow" this link from an old September post by Rete ;) http://www.kamya.com/misc/polcert.html#can Hopefully that will clear up a bit of the confusion... and hopefully it's correct. lol. > Originally posted by Laura Fitzroy-Perry > > K3 for > Canadians - > > the checklist for the K3 through Montreal directs you to > read supplemental > > document OF-169 which states "The only acceptable > police report from Canada > > is the certificate issued by the RCMP,....." > It continues on about addresses > > etc. I would assume from this that > the K1 and K3 differ in this respect. > > > > I can scan the page of the > supplement if you like. > > Laura > > > You are quite right Laura. > I am absolutely flabergasted by the myth and outright falsehood > perpetuated here. > What on earth can be the confusion, take it from the > horse's mouth: http://www.rcmp.ca/crimrec/finger_e.htm > -- > Posted via http://britishexpats.com |
Re: Ques: RCMP Police Cert. for K3 in Canada
I'm sorry, but y'all are just reading this incorrectly..... The OF-169
says the exact same thing for both the K1 and K3 (I did look at both of these on the Yahoo Can/Am file site). You DO NOT need to apply for the "certified" copy from Ottawa that requires fingerprints UNLESS you have a criminal record. The "certificate" from your local RCMP office is all that they require - and if that comes up clean, you're set. If it DOESN"T come up clean, you'll need to get fingerprinted and apply for the certified copy from Ottawa that shows all arrests and details. There was alot of discussion about this, too, when I was going thru this as not only is the wording "RCMP certificate" a little ambiguous, but if you look on the RCMP website, thats the only option you'll get. There's no mention anywhere about going into the local RCMP shop and getting your certificate there. I may have gone thru the K1, not the K3 - but they are the same!
