POE on K1 Question
My POE flight is this monday (SUPER EXCITED) to JFK but i'm just looking for more information on what happens.
From what I've been able to find on this forum, and elsewhere online, it's going to be just as anti-climactic as the K1 Interview at the Embassy - just hand in the big envelope and then go somewhere else to see someone who stamps something.. pretty much? I read that at one POE experience, at JFK, the person with the visa was asked by the first border official to see all the K1 visa information that was provided as evidence to the K1 interview on top of the big envelope.. photos, birth certificate, police certificate etc I haven't been told this by anyone, and as like many people in the same situation, my folder for my K1 interview folder is massive so i'd really not have this in my carry on. Do I need this? Is there anything I particularly need to know? Any help would be much appreciated! |

You are right, it's as you describe in your first paragraph. I've not heard of anyone needing anything else.

It's personal choice, but I also had a large folder containing all my K-1 information but decided to include that in my carry on for fear of losing it in checked luggage. If it's really too bulky for carry on, perhaps you can at least take out the most important - and most difficult to replace - paperwork to include in a smaller folder in your carry on ie birth certificate, any important medical documents etc?
My POE at LAX was very anti-climatic, and was as simple as handing over the white envelope, getting an entry note on the visa page on my passport, giving finger prints as usual, and that was that. Best of luck with your POE! |

Copies of all that material should be in the Mysterious White Envelope (although it was Brown in my day) and are supposed to be sent by CBP to USCIS to be added to your file. In fact, when I went to my naturalization interview last year, I tool documentation of my childhood name changes but the officer didn’t need to see them as the copies were still in my file. |

My POE was JFK.
Apart from being incredibly slow/busy, it was very anti-climatic. If you have any connections or are expected at an AirBnb (like I was, my connection onto Denver was the next day) I would allow plenty of time. Not to alarm you either but, I wasn't allowed to collect my checked baggage before going into Secondary, after being in there for a long time I luckily found my bag in a pile of others in the corner of the baggage collection hall. Not trying to make you nervous, but just a heads up on what happened to me! |
