Physical for AOS scheduled! Now a question!

Hiyas.
Since my K1 physical was out of date, I had to schedule a new one. Okay, it'll cost us, but no big deal.
I did have a question regarding the physical. I remember in the first one, they had asked me all the standard health questions, and mental health questions, and I had said that yes, in the past I had suffered from depression, but yeah, other than that things were honkey dorey.
Since then, I've received some help dealing with what we now know is an anxiety disorder. I expect I'm going to have to say something about that. I guess my question is - is ANY kind of mental illness a red flag for them? Or is what they are truly looking for more a matter of "this will cost the state a lot of money to treat, commit, etc"?
As you can imagine, being anxious, I can find all SOOOORTS of new reasons to worry about the impending interview (March 2) and physical (Feb 4)
Hee. Come put my nerves at ease?

well, in my physical they did not mention anything about mental problems
or ask anything of that sort (like whether or not i had depression!).
They are mainly worried about TB (the skin test), AIDS (they dry your
blood) and siphyllus as far as i know. (i.e. they are worried more about
the contagious stuff)
and is anxiety disorder considered a " severe mental illness"? i dont
think so, half of the people i meet at college and elsewhere has
symptoms of anxiety disorder, especially during final exams! ;)
good luck and wish u all the best.

Hello and welcome to the hallowed halls herein of our newsgroup. You
will find many well meaning people herein and all will try to assist
you as best we can having regard to all the circumstances of your case
as articulated herein by you.
Speaking in broad terms and havong considered all that you stated I
feel that in oyur particular circumstances you will not have any
problems. Where you might run into difficulties would be if you were a
complete raving lunatic ( they do exist) and even then the medical
people would have to have you certified as unfit to be outside the
confines of four high walls.
Concerning depression: having depression does not mean that you in any
way will fail the medical...there are many people who have this cronic
medical problem who have passed the medical exam. A primary concern
would be whether the
disease was being treated successfully and the person was
FUNCTIONAL...that is, stable and able to work. Another consideration
regarding mental disorders would be whether the person was having
problems currently with psychoses, as these would be disabling and
possibly require institutionalization, or might be a threat to
himself or others. If there was no psychosis, then you would have more
than a good chance of passing the exam. Mental and mood disorders do
not automatically mean you flunk the exam. Again, physician
documentation regarding the problem, it's treatment, and the success of
that treatment could be very important.
I would reiterate that the problems mentioned by you seem to applicable
to a vast majority of the population and probably to many who post
here. I am confidant that you will be fine. The major concentration of
this exam is physical. All will be well I feel in your case.
Best of luck and keep us up-dated.

![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I suffer from both anxiety and depression. I was asked by the doc at my physical and told him that I had them both. He just nodded and kept on doing his thing. I really dont think itll be a big deal unless youre a danger to yourself or to society. They are more worried about diseases like HIV/AIDS methinks.
good luck!
