photo for visa
Hey again,
I have had my visa photo taken in a photo booth and they have come out fine
but they are millimetres smaller than the measurements given on the web page
which tells you about them. Like I think it's supposed to be 26mm from cheek
to ear but mine is 22mm. Is this a problem and do I need to do them again or
will they be okay? They are the size of a passport photo.
Kathy.

Reminds me of the Dirty Harry movie that was on the other day.
The line is often misquoted as "Do you feel lucky", but the correct
quote is:
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?'
There is a good chance that you will be OK, but then there is a chance
you won't be as some government employees can interpret things very
strictly.

yes, it's b*llshit isn't it? i just sent of my photos and i think it's fine.. they're smaller too.. i looked at passport pictures and they had borders around them and were the same.... it's absolutely amazing how anally retentive the authorities are on this issue.. but i think everything will be fine.. no one could get it so perfect.

Kathy,
I'm sure they won't take a ruler to the photo unless it too small - but why
take the chance?
Perhaps it may be worth the expense of getting it just right (or maybe lean
a little closer to the photo booth lens) :-)

Re: photo for visa
Unless they have a really good eye, which is entirely possible since they spend their day looking at those very same pictures, they won't notice.
Make sure the quality of the photo booth pictures are up-to-par with what a professional one would be, as the colors need to be almost an exact (hair, eyes, etc) replica of real life. If they notice something like that wrong with it, they may get the ruler out and find other things wrong with it.
For passport photos, picture studios often have a "frame" on the lens in order to get the measurements perfect, or very, very close to perfect.
I don't see why it would really matter, but they're quite anal about other things, pictures might just be another thing to watch out for.

Are passport photos ok? Or is it necessary to take "Visa" photos? If so
where do you get them taken?

Passport photos are NOT ok. Passport photos have you looking straight
at the camera, while Visa photos show the right side of your face,
including your right ear and left eye. See
http://uscis.gov/graphics/lawsregs/handbook/m-378.pdf
Any semi-competent photographer should be able to take Visa photos if
you bring those guidelines along. If they're set up to do passport
photos, they can use the same camera, lights, background, and
everything else.
