Hi,
My friend from Japan is in the US on an F1 student visa. She is planning to marry
her boy friend this year. Since she's already in the US does she still need to go
through the K1 visa process? Or can she just get married and file a adjustment of
status? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

She could marry, file for AOS and continue to stay in the US. She may even want to
apply for EAD so that if she decides to work, she could go for it. You could learn
more about the process at:

No, she does not need to get a K-1 visa. SHe should get married at least 60 days past
her last entry to the country on a F-1 though, and then file for AOS (I-130, I-485,
I-131, I-765, I-693, I-864).
Good luck!
