Default permanent residence application ..was charged

Was charged:

On the K1 visa application. I ticked at "NO" to being arrested or convicted (thinking it only applies to people currently being charged or convicted).

I was charged for assault, but the charges were latter withdrawn by the public prosecutor. I have clean certificate of no record (of conviction/or criminal matters in front of courts ) RCMP(Federal police) and local police.

Now I am worried that my permanent residence application would be denied if say YES to ever being charged or else INS might say you gave a false statement on K1 application.

If I don't tell them about the charges and they latter find out about it with the background check then again they will say I did fraud by not mentioning about it in the permanent residence application.

Please guide what is the best thing to do now?

thanks
