Can someone please tell me if an alien who is a recovering alcoholic with many years
of sobriety who was in a rehab in their first year of recovery would have a problem
of receiving a k1 visa? where are the places in the process where this would be an
issue? should the petitioner mention this in the original petition? does the alien
need proof of sobriety? i would appreciate all help on this topic...thank you.

I believe you are asked a question relevant to this on the medical questionnaire at the doctor's office.
I know of one Canadian who had to have a doctor's letter stating he is not an alcoholic because he had a number of DWI's on his record and one pending in the US.
It should not be a problem for the US Consulate.
