For those who are getting married in Vegas, here is what we did:
On the Monday we got married but were not given the signed certificate. On Wednesday we went to the records office and learned that our marriage had been recorded that morning. The clerk kindly allowed us to have a certified certificate on the spot.
The records office is a fair distance away so would recommend hiring a car which works out cheaper than all the cabs you could end up taking.
Today (Friday) we hand delivered our AOS papers at the Vermont local office where the clerk checked our payments and forms in front of us. He said it's taking around 2-3 months for AP and 6-12 months for AOS.
Hope this is helpful to anyone.

We stopped at the Clark County (Las Vegas) Recorder's office on the way
to the hotel from the wedding and Red Rock Park and filed the minister's
copy. It was late afternoon and they said it would be recorded and
copies ready the next morning They have a very efficient and friendly
staff, and the process was very smooth. Their website also tells you
how to get an apostille in case it is needed for a foreign country
(passport change, etc). In fact, you can even send the check for the
marriage license copy to them, with a check for the Nevada Secretary Of
State's office and Recorder's office will send the marriage license copy
directly to Carson City with the other check to save time in getting the
apostille. Too bad more government agencies aren't run that way. (Your
experience may vary; we got married in March 2000)

We just got married in Gatlinburg, TN, which is a popular place to get hitched here in the South. The chapel wouldn't let us file the certificate ourselves, but did request the minister to file the papers on the following Monday. He did so, and when we went in to the County Clerk's office on Wednesday (closed early on Tuesday) we asked for 3 copies (for God knows what uses) and got them with no problems! ![Big Grin](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Seems like a very efficient process to me! If only USCIS was that good.
Cheers,
Jamie
