Default NYC lost my AP application

I applied for my AOS almost 5 months ago at NYC. I got my EAD and I-485 receipt just fine, but never heard anything on the AP.

I decided to take a day off work and head down to Federal Plaza to see what was going on. I got there around 10am and after getting through security (which took 30 minutes) was sent to the 3rd floor to explain myself. They then sent me to the 8th floor where I stood on line to talk to an immigration officer. The woman was actually very helpful, and seemed genuinely shocked to hear I had been waiting 5 months. She took a copy of my yellow till receipt and made me fill out an enquiry form.

Around 12.30 I was called and was told they had lost my application, but they would process a new one for me that day. Of course I had no photographs with me, so had to leave the building, get photos done over the road and come back in. When I got back in it was about 1.15, and I handed in my photos and a new application form in. At 3.30 I was called and my AP was ready.

So thanks to their mistake it cost me a day of work and $8 for the photos, but at least I feel better that I have my AP!

And so the wait goes on....

My experience (purely from reading on the newsgroup) of NYC is that filing
for AP with the AOS documentation is very much a crapshoot as to whether
they'll lose it or reject it because they haven't tied it in with the
original application. However, at least they now seem to accept that they do
this and process them with minimal griping!

We didn't have a problem and don't recall anyone from our Alumni Class using NYC having problems either. Although in later classes (2001/2002) did have a few problems. I personally think that this problem was caused by the fact that NYC logged in the applications and fee payments and then farmed them out for processing to the NBC. Peter got the EAD through this type of processing and others have reported that their A/P's were shipped out as well. Hopefully, he didn't lose a day's pay as well as a personal and/or vacation day.

Luckilly I only lost a vacation day, but of course I'd rather have spent it not sitting in a waiting room!
