Default NYC AOS today - we finally reached the end of the tunnel...

Hello, everyone! As promised, here is what happened today at our AOS
interview at NYC. This story was also posted in the Interview
Experiences...

Our appointment was @ 8 am. My husband and I reached 26 Federal Plaza
@ 6:30 am. We saw there was already a long line pointing towards the
front of the building (which is not our entrance). Our entrance door
at Worth St. had about 4 persons in line but doors were still closed.
We went across the street to have breakfast and waited there (it was
FREEZING this morning!).

Finally @ 7:30 am, we ran across the street and entered at the Worth
St. entrance. There was no line at all... On the 8th floor, there
were already a lot of people ahead of us. I was told to sit down and
wait while my husband got in line for his signature and fingerprint.
After about 20 minutes, my husband sat beside me. I expected a long
wait therefore I had my book with me. By this time, it was 8:05 am.

Another 30 minutes, my husband decided to go the men's room. Ironic
enough, his name was called the next minute. I stood up and the lady
smiled at me and I told her that he's in the men's room. She said,
has he been there long? I said he's probably on his way back right
now. She goes... "go and get him". So I did and we went with her in
her office. She was a very nice lady... This is what basically
transpired:

- We were asked to raise our right hand and swear we're telling the
truth, etc.
- She asked to see our passports.
- She asked if we have any children and when we said YES, she asked
for our child's original and copy of the birth certificate. She gave
back the original.
- She asked for the updated Affidavit of Support and pay stubs and
employment letters
- She asked for the IRS transcript (last 3 years)
- She asked my husband if he's been convicted of any crimes, etc.
- She confirmed our new address and asked if we bought a house

*** All these times, she just kept filing and writing in our files.
She probably glanced just a few times to ask the above questions.

Finally, she removed the I-94 from his passport, took his EAD and
stamped something in the passport. She said the card will arrive in
3-6 months in the mail. She also informed us that my husband is
receiving a permanent resident card since we've been married over 2
years.

From there, she said, "Congratulations and have a nice day" and shook
our hands.

This lady was super-duper niceeeee!!!... She did not ask for anything
else. Absolutely NOTHING else! Not even the medical sealed envelope
which my husband recently had and paid in the amount of $185.00 No
pictures, no marriage certificates, NADA! We are so happy we were
given a very nice District Adjucator Officer.

We were outta there by 9 am! From there we decided to go to the SS
office to have his "not valid with INS authorization" removed from his
SS card. However, when we got there, the lady that we see told us
that this is not needed and his new SS will be arriving in the mail in
3 weeks. If we do not received it within that time, then we can come
back and apply again (does that make sense?).

Thanks for reading this and we want to say good luck and hang in
there!!! I also would like to say thank you to those people who
responded patiently to my questions, especially Rete.

Take care everyone!

Sounds like the perfect end scenario to a long and tedious wait. So glad my previous experience with NYC USCIS gave me some insight to share with you to make your trip a little easier to take.

And thank you so much for posting the experience on the pages. It is very much appreciated. Woweee ... next stop naturalization, if he wants in 2 years and 9 months.
