Default NYC AOS - NOA received from NBC

Some informtation for fellow NYC'ers.

Today I received three NOAs from NBC - one each for I-485, I-131 and
I-130.

This is a little odd. I know that *new* applications to district
offices were being forwarded to NBC. This is the first time I've heard
of an 'old' application receiving NOAs from NBC.

I'm not sure why I've gotten an NOA for the I-131 (Advance Parole.) I
don't have an application outstanding for AP. Strange.

The I-485 NOA had some blurb about making a fingerprinting appointment
with the ASC. Also the dates on the NOA are weird. My original yellow
receipt had a date of 19 April 2002. The NOA has a 'received' date of
June 1 2002, and a 'notice' date of February 2 2004.

Now I'm very confused about what my 'date' is. Should I be looking at
the NYC District office processing times? If so is my date April 19
2002 (Yellow receipt) or June 1 2002 (NOA 'received' date)? Or should
I be checking the NBC processing times using the NOA 'notice' date of
February 2 2004?

Cheers,

Marco

I just also received a NOA with "received" date of March 2002 and Notice date of January 29, 2004 from NBC but in my yellow receipt it was Feb, 2002.

It's a NOA for Biometrics and ASC gave me an appointment 1 month from now.

I'm also confused since my application was submitted 2 years ago. It just disappointed me that they didn't give the interview date with the fingerprint notice.

Oh well, atleast we know we're moving forward.

Hi! I'm actor Troy McClure. You may remember me from such threads as

Yup. It's certainly encouraging news. I just wish I knew what my
official 'date' was. Even my lawyer basically said he didn't know
because the procedure is so new.

Incidentally, have you tried entering your MSCxxxx number online to
get the case status? When I try with mine it doesn't recognise the
number.

Yep, you bet I tried that MSC number!

Application Type: I485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status

Current Status:

Your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status was received on January 29, 2004. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 120 and 180 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

That's what it said on my receipt number.

???? OK, now I am totally confused. Where the hell are our cases being
processed? NYC or NBC? Presumably if it's NBC, we still have to have
an interview at NYC, right? I can't imagine that it'll be decided at
NBC without an interview.

Also, that timeline is a little discouraging. 120-180 days from your
January 29th 2004 date? That will make your total timeline 28-30
months, right?

What relevance is there to the processing dates published for NYC
district office now? They are processing cases from May 9 2002. Since
your yellow receipt was Feb 02 and mine April 02, I was kind of hoping
we would be getting interviews imminently.

By the way, I called up the helpline to book biometrics at an ASC, and
their system won't allow them to book an appointment more than 42 days
ahead, and all the ASCs near me (Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx) were full
up :-(

Just very very confused by all this :-(.

Cheers,

Marco

I'm also confused as you do.

I got the Biometrics appointment for March 4 in the Bronx which 1 month from the day I called. I've been thinking if they will let me do the biometrics as a walk in since I've tried that for my EAD.

It's been 2 years since I applied so the timeline that USCIS has been showing is not true at all. It really is disappointing. I should have been counting my days for citizenship by now if am not living in NYC.

FWIW I today spoke to the USCIS info line to make my biometric
appointment and asked what was going on with cases that had been
transferred to NBC. The agent told me that the date on my original
yellow receipt was the right one, and to compare it to the processing
dates for MYC district office.

I guess this makes sense because the processing date went to May 9
2002 a few weeks back, and my yellow receipt was April 19 2002.

Hopefully an interview should be forthcoming shortly. Fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Marco
