My wife and I went for a trial run about three weeks ago because her 90 day
EAD expires this week... There are barriers set up for TWO lines. But only
the people who are there for EAD will be queuing up about 10 PM the day
before. We were there at 2 AM and there were about 8-10 people there; we
were there on a Monday. Since the EAD only allows 50 walk-ins per day,
there are people who come this early. The other queue is for walk-ins to
see an immigration officer and that line will be VERY long.

For example, we needed a letter for New York State Department of Education
for professional licensing, then we'd go on the other queue to speak to an
immigration officer for that letter to submit with the licensing
application.

Hello!

My wife and I are going to go to 26 Fed Plaza next week to get my
wife's passport stamed with an I-155 due to delay of I-751 processing
at VCS and I'd appreciate if you could tell me your experience in more
details. We are going to be accompanied by our 1 year old son and
therefore, I just want to avoid as many obsticles as possible.

Thanks

Hey Mark - I actually posted about this after we went (http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...ighlight=tracy) but here's the text of that post:

Experience at NYC office to renew I-551 while I-751 pending.
Dave and I went to the NYC BCIS office this past Monday to renew his stamp bec the one-year extension on his green card was up Tuesday and Vermont is still dragging on I-751's. Here's what happened.

We got there around 7:15 and the line was so long that it was directly opposite where the line started but in the back of the building. The good news is that the line got even longer as we stood there but it was still a bit of a wait.

We got in the building around 8:30 and went up to the third floor. After 15 minutes in line there we got a yellow paper and were instructed to go to the 8th floor to room 100. The same room that AP processing is done in. So after a bathroom run we got up there and waited in line again. The yellow paper was an inquiry form. Dave's name, address, A#, reason for being there. About 20 minutes later we got to the windows and explained to the woman that we need an I-551 stamp and why and she said they've been getting a lot of similar requests. So she took Dave's passport and told us to have a seat.

At 11:30 -- after we had both taken turns napping -- they called him back up and she showed him the new stamp in his passport. It was extended for another year.

All in all a long long day with positive results.

A word of warning to anyone else who goes to NYC for this -- sit towards the front of the room on the 8th floor. Some of the workers aren't very loud and the din in the room is unbelievable.
