Default A-number changed

Just for funsies I checked up on our I-129F case status on the USCIS Web site. It now says "On March 11, 2014, your Alien Registration Number was changed relating to your I129F, PETITION FOR FIANCE(E)." Is this normal? Should I worry? The petition was received March 5.

I wouldn't say it's normal, but I also wouldn't say it's something to worry about. USCIS is probably doing something internal which you don't need to worry about.

It's done this for a long time, actually. I get the feeling it means they've created a number as opposed to changed it.

Agreed. Up until this point OP did not have an A- number, unless previous visas exist, right?

It's completely normal. Every I129f petition goes through this stage. It just means you're now in their system. Nothing more, nothing less.
