no AP - how long wait until leaving US
Hello everyone,
if you DON'T file for AP, when will you be able to leave the US/after what period of
time? After 2 years or when you get your GC or .....?

You can leave the US at any time. No one will stop you. The problem is with re-entry. Without the A/P you will be viewed as having abandoned your AOS and will have to start over.
You can leave anytime after you have the I-551 stamp in your passport. This is given after an approved AOS interview and will serve as a green card until the actual one arrives in the post. The timeline depends solely on the INS office you will be using. Could be six months or 4 years.

Once you have a successful AOS interview and get the stamp in your passport or the
plastic green-card you are safe to leave the US without advanced parole.
You can always apply for it closer to when you'll want to use it, if you're eligible
(no overstay, etc.)
