I just got back from Managua Nicaragua and my fiance has her visa!
Here's my timeline with some important advice following. (At least for
Central American applicants...)
July 10th - Sent in I-129f
July 18th - Received 1st NOA (From Texas Service Center)
Sept 10th - Received 2nd NOA
Oct 23rd - Visa Interview
Oct 24th - Visa Received!!
You may wonder why such a long period between the 1st and 2nd NOA.
Simply put, the TSC goofed. I called them and they said that I was
approved, but the office who reviewed the case forgot to send me the
2nd NOA! He couldn't tell me exactly when it was approved.
I let some time go by, but my fiance still had not received her
paperwork. I called the embassy and after a lot of talking they
finally found the confirmation from the TSC and told me she could pick
up her packet the next day. When she picked it up they already had an
interview date for her! This came as quite a surprise to me.
On the 23rd she waited for 2 hours for her interview. The interview
itself only took about 5 minutes. They looked over my papers, asked
her how long we had been together, what my parent's names were and
said she was approved and would get it the next day!
The next day we picked it up at a local delivery place and now
there's a sticker that occupies a whole page of her passport that is
her K1 visa. (It has her picture and everything. We also got the
"Mysterious Brown Envelope."
Some words of advice:
1. Don't assume the INS is doing it's job. Check the timelines online
and if you don't hear back from them in the time it's reported that it
should take, call them....bug them.
2. I've heard from several other people going through K1 in Central
America where they don't send the packet or call the fiance. After two
weeks has elapsed after your 2nd NOA, call the embassy and have them
look for it, and keep calling.
3. It appears that what they really care about is your financial
documents. Make sure to have EVERYTHING.
I hope this helps anybody who goes through this in the future. If you
have any questions, email me at: [email protected]
