new and nervous
Hello,
My daughter is marrying a fellow from Australia and our Visa application is
just past the 150 day mark. The wedding (large and $$) is planned for May
29. I begged them to file a lot earlier, but, that didn't happen. Now we are
getting nervous that he's not going to get his Visa in time.
Can anyone offer any encouragement?
Our plan "B" is for him to come on a tourist Visa and have the wedding
anyway (without a legal marriage license) But I would really rather that not
happen.
thanks in advance
Peggy

First of all, I assume your daughter has filed for a K-1 visa for her fiance? Depending on where she lives and what service center she filed through you can look up the processing timelines on the USCIS website to find out what cases (NOA1 dates) they are currently processing. You could be close to being approved, but there is no gaurantee. That's why a lot of people on this NG say that booking a wedding date prior to having the visa is very risky.
If you haven't gotten approval yet, the likelyhood of a wedding end of May is probably close to none. It depends on when you get the approval and how fast the consulate is in processing. While he maybe could come over on a tourist visa (a little risky)and marry, he would need to return to Australia - at that point I would look into DCF - I "think" Autralia is one of the few countries that does DCF, but you need to call the embassy and ask. That would be the quickest way after getting married. Or they have to file for the K-3 visa.
Hope that helps some, I'm sure others here will correct me if I'm wrong There are others here who have gone through Australia who could probably tell you more.
Good luck,
Angela
