Post New job in USA. What is the best VISA approach for me and family

Hi
I have been offered a VP job in US. I have specialist skills (in the pharamceutical industry) that they require. My family and I are keen to move out to US, probably long term. My children are 13 and 9.
What are the best VISAs for me and my family to get? How can I get one for my wife to work?
If we stay long-term, how do we get green cards?
Will my kids be OK for schools and college and probably US citizenship? Pehaps us as well?
Hopefully the company will help me with everything, but I could really use some guidance.
Many thanks

Read the FAQ's first to get an over view as there is just too much to say. Then you can focus in on any specific issues.

Have a look at the US Embassy web site, your are most likely looking at a H1B. That will prob mean no entry before next October at earliest. You do need to find out what they have in mind, there are other options but from what has been posted here this is the common one.

The US company should put you in touch with a Lawyer who will process the Visa. Costs, and they should pay!.

Your wife can not work on a H4. Your employer can sponsor you for Greencard but that takes years. Greencard can lead to Citizenship. If you want to stay then you need to make sure that they will follow through. I know this is a big issue, I have a friend who has gone this route and they are being slooow, and he is tied to working for them in the mean time.

Likewise children who can only I think stay to 21 on a H4.

If it's research based, they might not be part of the cap, I don't know, worth looking into, but it if is capped, then won't be able to apply for H1B till next april/may, and won't be available till Oct next year.
