When my now hubby got his K1 in 2004, he had his medical and interview on the same day. He had no choice in making the medical appt as the consulate made that as well, IIRC.He was approved and went home with his visa and passport all in the same day.
I think that changed at least a year and a half ago though, from what little I've been reading on K1 visas. I have no clue if same day visa ever happened with a CR1/IR1.
Great news OP! Hope all goes well for you! We were just in Scotland for holiday visiting my in-laws. The weather sucked the whole time, except (of course) for the last day we were there. Hope the weather's gotten a bit better for ya.
