Default New GC Design

Hello group.
I have been reading this group for over 1.5 years. I can't describe
how I appreciate each and every person who contributes to this group,
especially the regulars. The posts I came across helped my wife and I
in the long and difficult process of AOS and clarified many steps
along the way. At long last, the green card came in the mail
yesterday. My wife and I are very excited because we just bought a
house and we were worried about having to file the change of address
and what it might mean if the card didn't arrive by the time of the
move, which is scheduled for this weekend.

The card seems to have a new design. Unlike the older, and the more
familiar one, the new card has what seem to be high-tech features. In
addition to the holograms all over the front side, there is a large
magnetic stripe, almost 2/3rds of the height, on the back of the card.
In the magnetic stripe there is a hologram with my picture, my name
and A#. A bar code is on the lower side of the bar stripe and on top,
in green letters, the words "U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Immigration
and Naturalization Service
PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD
The person identified by this card is authorized to work and reside in
the U.S."
Did anybody get one the new cards (as opposed to one pictured on the
INS web page http://www.immigration.gov/graphics/index.htm)?
Again thank you all for being so helpful.

Hi:

The newest version of the I-551 has more green in it than the ARC's have had in over 30 years.

The old I-151's were green up to about 1969 or so when they became a light blue [with a greenish tinge]. In about 1980, the I-151 was replaced by the I-551. BTW, all I-151's are now invalid and should have been replaced by a I-551. In 1990, the I-551 got the ten year limitation on it. However, those of you with the older I-551's with no expiry date need not worry -- yet.

When my children were in nursery school a long long time ago, one of the teachers approached me about her lost green card. Wanting to ascertain whether she had an old I-151 or a new I-551 [to see how much I had to explain about the procedure], I asked "What color was your green card?" The school director was standing nearby and broke out laughing -- she thought the question was of the Grant's tomb variety.

Both mine looked like that... the conditional one I got back in 1999 and the permanent 10 year card that I received last year...
