You have to be a native-born American female who's never lived anywhere else but knows people with horror anecdotes about health systems in other countries You should sincerely believes that the US health care system is the best in the world, and any government intervention will only make it worse.

I saw a blog article once which was stating the horrors and evils of 'socialised medicine' and felt the need to post a comment pointing out that it was not really as the blogger had described.
I was rounded on by a female poster who said that she 'had dozens of friends in the uk - and every single one of them had literally been almost killed because of the national health service'

Is that what they call American propaganda then? Is that what they preach to the eponymous masses over there then?
I am reminded of some story I heard being related on BBC Radio 4 by an American woman who was heavily pregnant when she came to the UK on her very first visit to this country. One fine sunny day she was walking along Oxford Street in London when she suddenly collapsed in considerable pain.
Police offers and passers by attended to her and an ambulance was called and arrived within ten minutes, and she was rushed off to hospital where serious complications set in which required a great deal of medical attention, and she was in hospital for several weeks. Her baby was delivered safely and the woman's condition steadily improved and she and her bairn were finally discharged.
All the while she was there she was not approached for payment by anyone at all and she was never aware of any checks being made at that time regarding eligibility, and she was amazed that nobody even mentioned payment for all the treatment she received, which, in her own words, was "magnificent". She could not praise the police, the public, the ambulance paramedic personnel, the doctors and the nurses highly enough.
When she got back to New York, USA, she sent a considerable payment to the hospital, or to the NHS direct, back in London, along with her profound gratitude for all the care and attention she had received from the moment she first collapsed on the hard pavement of Oxford Street to the time she passed through the exit door of the hospital.
I believe she wrote a book or at least a magazine article or something like that detailing everything that had happened to her in the UK on that occasion, so impressed was she with the way she was dealt with by all concerned, with special emphasis on the British National Health Service and all the staff with whom she came into contact.

People only hear the bad points about the NHS, which are far outweighed by the good points all said and done. Child birth is a good example to use to compare the 2. The insurance comapnies have very strict guidelines on after care and what they will cover how long you can stay in hospital etc and little provision is made afterwards. The aftercare is much better in the UK in my opinion.
It's true that different people have different experiences and stories to tell about their own health care/treatment etc, but I am getting a little fed up with hearing the crap about how much better the health care is here, from my own experience, I have had more crap care here than I ever did in the UK, both my baby deliveries were a F***ing nightmare, (medical screw ups)
The hospitals are ripping off the insurance companies and then that gets passed on to us! Pisses me off that they charge a bloody fortune for those little moist mouth wash sponges on sticks and then charge you for crap you don't even use!
I just wonder who would be the 'losers' here if they had a NHS?

Both of my deliveres were fine however second daughter they really screwed up with the epidural. You know they have screwed up bad when you have blood at the top of you pillow from the epidural and they bring in a doctor and nurse just to look at your back! My back had a large bruise for weeks afterward and of course I was billed for it!

I can't be in the club because despite having the native born American female qualification nailed, I have lived in more than 3 other countries. And the rest of it.
I just don't know why you have to be so bitchy and attack individuals. I mean, I know why you do it, I just don't know why you can't get over it (ie grow out of it).
I'm sure you'll find a clever way to put me down too. Whatever.

I take it from what you said that you agree with my observation but think it shouldn't be discussed in polite society? Dissent is very much an American value, I suppose.

oh, well having lived here for twenty years and have good benefits , having expearienced the health care system in the UK ,and have a sister who is a doctor in Australia ,"you could be right"
I only hope that there is a time in this country when every citizen has health care as a right .............its the moral thing to do
