Default Need help - INS wants evidence of my place of residence

Thank you in advance for reading this.

Here is the situation: I am a Canadian Permanent Resident. I am married to a USC. We
live in DC. I have applied for US LPR. I need to pick up my EAD from INS. INS has
asked me to come in with my Passport and evidence of my place of residence.

How can I give them evidence of my place of residence?

Being a Canadian PR all my papers are from Canada. I have not gotten any local US IDs
yet. After I get my EAD I will apply for the driver lisence and Social Security
document. The lease for our current residence is still in my wife's name.

I called INS customer service and they told me that I should take my passport + copy
of lease in my wife's name or rent receipts + marriage certificate. They said, that
would be enough evidence of my place of residence.

Should I trust INS customer service?

Is there any other way around this?

Any suggestions are welcome.

I lease my residence as well and I have already checked on this with my leasing
office. In my case, all I have to do is bring my wife to the leasing office and add
her to the lease and get a copy. You might want to have the leasing office add you
to the lease. Quick and simple if they will do it.

In this instance what they said is correct. Also bring whatever other mail has arrived for you at this address as further back up of your residency there.

Do you have a bank account with your wife or alone with your name and address printed on the checks?

The interview is in Arlington, right? What they have suggested should be fine. I have
picked up two EADs from there and there were always people who were in the same
situation as you. The "large" guy might roll his eyes but he's pretty reasonable!

Andy.
