Default Need Help: H1-B Processing procedure

Hi Experts:

I am considering doing the entire H1-B procedure processing myself for my wife who is
a medical doctor since we cannot afford the lawyers fees. Can anyone please describe
the process to me or point me towards a web-site/link where I can find exact
step-by-step directions and the forms needed for doing this application.

Thanks in advance

To be quite frank, you may be saving money on the wrong end. I did it myself the
first time and had to refile three times before I got it right (despite a good book!)
Fortunately, that was nine years ago and only cost me $100 or so a pop. Today, you'd
be out $1100+ just in INS fees, and another $1000 if you use premium processing.
Compared to that, the $1500 or so that a lawyer charges for an H-1B are cheap!

If you still want to do it yourself, check out the links in my signature.

Hi M. Jan, Instead of a lawyer I went with an immigration consultant who is much more
flexible and affordable. His rates are posted right on his website.

Now that you've spammed in this group how many times?

I note that on this web site is an organisation which does not advertise a telephone
number (on the advertised site), or an address, and the only contact is a hotmail
address, for an as_one_janice.

I'd feel uncomfortable with this, so I did some searching and found some
interesting stuff ...

Doing a whois lookup on network solutions for as-oneimmigration.com reveals the
following ...

Administrative Contact: Carr, Janice [email protected] 991 Howie Avenue
Coquitlam, BC V3J 1T1 CA
(604) 9373901

I suppose that Janice Carr is the spouse of Andrew Carr ? Now just how can Andrew
Carr use his own services ? And if he went to the US, how come he has a BC address ?
Maybe he needed a work visa for his comedy work ... see below.

Doing a google search revealed this on a free webhost site ...

http://www.dreamwater.org/biz/asone/Main.htm

Under "Who we are" ...

Like on the as-oneimmigration site is Mr Allen Gray and a reference this time to
email for Mr Gray and a Mr Howard, this time on lycos

"You can contact us by telephone at (250) 365-6380 between 8:30 am to
605:30 pm Monday to Saturday (PST)

E-mail our office at [email protected] or [email protected]"

Mr Grey can be found doing an infospace reverse residential phone # lookup on the
number show and he's in Castlegar BC and again free email services!

Mr Howard could be one of several in area code 250 and doesn't stand out readily in a
search engine.

Doing a little more digging reveals the following Andrew Carr

http://www.carrentertainment.com/

"Andrew Carr is a veteran comedian with over twelve years of experience performing
across North America. He plays clubs, colleges, and corporate events and has made
appearances on television and performed on radio."

and doing a Whois of carrentertainment.com reveals

Carr,Andrew (CARRENTERTAINMENT-DOM) 991 howie Ave Coquitlam, BC V3J 1T1 CA

Looks kind of familiar ...

This all may be a very legitimate and reputable business, after all would Mr. Carr
want to put his entertainer's credentials on the line ? But at the same time, to make
potential clients feel comfortable the link between the people would be useful, as
would Mr. Gray's credentials to do US immigration work from Canada. I am
uncomfortable that the site uses the term "Legal Fees" when they advertise as an imm.
consultant.

If I wanted to use a company like this, I'd be asking LOTS of questions before
entrusting my future.

I totally don't believe that these services are affordable. My colleagues who got
their H1 and subsequently filed for GreenCard have paid the following amounts:

H1 - $1200~$1600 (inclusive of all INS fees etc.) Green Card $5500 (all inclusive of
INS fees, labour cert fees etc.)

Plus, they were using an experienced immigration law firm, which included free
appeals in case it was rejected (they would take the case only after reviewing and
feeling confident that it will be approved), so it was a more reliable service.

Thanks Stuart. Their rates are very high, too.

You may also want to keep in mind that most immigration consultants are breaking the
law by practicing law without a license. You can help people, but you can't charge
for the help.
