Default Need Advice - English guy, US wife moving to the UK soon

Hi,

I just got married (31st Jan 2002) in Rockford Illinois. My wife is, who
still resides
there, is in the process of changing her name with Social Services
etc... and is then
planning to apply for a passport so she can come to be with me. I have a
few
questions.

1. What Visa does she need, and from whom should she get it.

2. If the Visa issue proves tricky, would her coming into the country
on a temporary one, as my wife, and then changing her mind when
she got here be an idea?

3. What work permit does she need, can she get one, where does she
apply? It's not that i'm the kind of guy that demands she starts
work
right away, but I work, and she's going to be in a country she's
never
been in before without a job to go to, so she'll go out of her mind
with
boredom.

Thanks
Dave

As your spouse she will need entry clearance before she can travel to
the UK

Immigration to the UK is discussed in misc.immigration.misc

If she enters as a tourist it may be very difficult to 'adjust status'
to Leave to Remain as your spouse. If she obtains prior entry clearance
she will not need a work permit and will be free to work for any
employer.
