Name Change - Green Card
When we submitted I-130 through DCF, wife kept her last name. Now we both decided that she would take my last name. Given that she has her interview this month, she is going to ask the consular if they could issue the green card with her new last name. It's highly unlikely, since her passport had her own last name.
Therefore the plan is to file I-90 once she arrives here. This would mean, going to Indian Embassy, get a new passport with her married last name on it, go to the local immigration office and apply for name change. This also means giving up physical green card, get a temporary stamp on the passport, and wait for a year for the replacement card.
I'd appreciate any alternative methods that others may have.

The consulate doesn't issue the green card, they only issue a visa.
However, they can change the name on the visa to her "married" name.
Or, at the POE, she can tell them what name she wants on the green card.
Or, she can do this when removing conditions, if you are married less
than 2 years at the time of the visa. Or... she can do this on the N-400
if she applies for citizenship. There are a few places she can do
this without filing I-90 and paying the I-90 fee.

She doesn't need her passport changed in order to have the name changed
for immigration, as long as she carries a copy of her marriage
certificate with her when she needs to use green card. The marriage
certificate itself would be proof enough of the name change.
I don't see a need to file I-90 and pay the fee for this.
