N-400 Post your individual journey please! v.2011

Re: Social Security Card update.
You can apply for some kind of dispensation from Germany that means that, if approved, you keep your German citizenship. Mrs tonrob started to research this, and while the high-level criteria seems clear (prove some kind of disadvantage if you were not able to have each of the two citizenships) the details around the specifics of what it takes to get approved are not. She read quite a lot on a German forum but came away not much the wiser.

Re: Social Security Card update.
Once US citizenship has been obtained, you can't go back and apply after the fact - must be done before.

I applied for naturalization back in May of this year. As of 3pm yesterday I am a newly minted US citizen

Hello All,
Sorry to jump in the middle of this thread....
I applied for the US Citizenship in Aug 2008
Finger prints done after few months
Interviewed on Jan 14, 2009, officer handed me a letter that says "I have passed the test but decision has not been made yet". An officer also told me that my name has a positive hit.
Since then my case is still pending, i wrote a letter to congressman but no answer.
In november 2011 I received a letter for finger prints again and on Dec 31,2011 i received a letter for re-interview. I am not sure why they want to re-interview?
I was assuming that I should have received the oath letter for citizenship.
I also would like to mention here that it took 2-3 years for me get to gc, either my first name or last name matches with some one and even i came to US on K3 visa it says on visa too "the person is not the same as lookout entry", means my name has a positive hit.
Please let me know if someone has the similar re-interview letter and what exactly happend?
Any suggestion or advise would be really appreciated.
Thank you
-Raaz

It sounds like you are in Administrative Processing. If so, there is nothing you can do but wait. Nothing at all. You can't find out how long it's going to take; and you can't find out where you are in the process.
The only thing that might help is a Writ of Mandamus... but the chances of it being successful are slim, since this is a matter of national security for the US.

Thanks for reponse, i have already contacted mandamus last year in 2011 around August but they said the same thing that my case is still pending.
My question is what does it mean re-interview? why they called me for re-interview? I checked the status online and it says that they schduled for test and interview again. However i have passed the test.
Please advise.

Wait for the actual interview date to turn up, go to it and see what happens. Maybe brush up on the civics questions just in case.

I would suggest that, rather than writing to your congressman and sitting back and waiting for a response, you telephone your congressman's office (the one in the district, not DC) and ask to speak to the person there responsible for immigration affairs for his constituents. When my application apparently got lost, I did just that and the liaison spoke to the state capital INS office and got me sorted out very rapidly. Even if they can't do that, perhaps they can ascertain what is going on for you.

(i guess that's what you mean right? .....

Biometrics only have a set length of time they are valid (because obviously you could have cut your hand off and grown another one in the intervening time). Your fingerprints now being a few years old need to be redone, so I suspect they are just going through the motions and that any interview you get will just be a formality to check you are still who you say you are and that you haven't suddenly become a communist or whatever in the intervening period.

Whether or not to hire a lawyer is something only you can answer. We don't know your whole story and we don't know the level of your risk tolerance. If hiring a lawyer will help you sleep better at night, do it.
